TOM MYERS

Tom serves as the Director of the International Business Program at Champlain College and teaches international courses in relations, business, marketing, and research. He created and instructs the Global Leadership Initiative program (GLI), a course that teaches and involves students in effective leadership training within the global environment.

Tom grew-up in Maine and came to Vermont in 1989. He worked as a ski racing coach and German language teacher for the elite-level ski racing academy, The Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield, VT. Tom is a certified Level II ski racing coach with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. During the summer seasons, Tom coached with the Austrian National Ski Team, as well as worked as a Ski Programs Director for American ski racing camps on the glaciers throughout Europe.

Tom then served as the Director of International Trade & Investment for the State of Vermont. During his tenure, he advised the Governor and the state legislative on international trade policy issues, developed direct marketing strategies throughout the world, and oversaw Vermont's foreign investment recruitment and promotion programs.

Recently, Tom helped to establish the Vermont Global Trade Partnership. This new organization serves as the international trade office for the state of Vermont. The partnership is represented by the State of Vermont's Agency of Commerce, The U.S. Department of Commerce, the VT State Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Champlain College.

Tom graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BA in Economics in 1985. While an undergraduate, he attended the Austro-American Institute in Vienna, Austria where he studied German and international economics. Tom has a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is a certified personal fitness trainer through the national American Council on Exercise (ACE). He maintains his own high-level of physical fitness as well conducting applied research on fitness and its affect upon effective communication and leadership skills.

Tom actively coaches ski racing at Smuggler's Notch during the winter, and during the summer, he is a competitive sailor on a 30' Etchells class one-design sailboat. Tom lives in Jericho Center, VT with his wife, Julie, and their two sons, Will and Charlie.
